Operating from stores in seven countries (UK, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Netherlands and Denmark), Coolshop has served over 1.6 million customers since its foundation in 2003. Originally focused on computer games, the business has expanded to sell across 22 categories, giving customers the highest quality products and value for money.

The success of Coolshop has meant that space in its warehouses and stores has come under a lot of pressure. Coupled with plans to continue expanding, the company needed to find a solution that would support controlled online expansion into new countries and categories, such as domestic appliances, without requiring a substantial investment in warehousing or infrastructure.

miniStation – an innovative TV game console based on the Android Operating System – offers hundreds of games from top game studios such as Tencent and Gameloft to consumers via their TVs. Unlike traditional game consoles, the miniStation can be controlled either by traditional game controllers or by mobile phones. Up to eight devices can access the miniStation at the same time, making it a truly compelling multi-user gaming platform.

The pioneering device was launched in response to the around 170M subscribers Tencent has to its mobile phone games and addresses the need for an improved audio and visual experience in this market. The miniStation also offers OTT service, allowing users to be connected to their TV screens anywhere and at any time, meeting the growing demand for TV Everywhere technology.

ROBLOX protects gaming platform by adopting brand protection strategy

NetNames, the online brand protection specialist, has partnered with ROBLOX Corporation, the user-generated online gaming platform, to deliver a brand protection programme to proactively protect ROBLOX products from the threat of counterfeiting on a global scale.

ROBLOX has entered a contract with NetNames, which will see NetNames detect fraudulent websites imitating that of the brand and counterfeit listings of ROBLOX products on marketplace sites, whilst enforcing their removal from the internet. As part of the brand protection programme, NetNames will also monitor for infringements on ROBLOX’s games across social media sites and mobile apps.

With over 15 million games created by its users, ROBLOX is the largest gaming site in the world. Powered by a growing community of over 300,000 developers who create a variety of 3D games, it allows users to experience virtual and augmented reality through applications available across iOS, Android and Kindle Fire devices.

Having developed its own virtual currency, Robux, the online gaming platform represents a digital economy which offers aspiring game developers the opportunity to monetise their creations. The partnership will not only safeguard against infringements on the brand’s trademark, which could be damaging to ROBLOX’s reputation, it will also protect the profits of its community of developers.
