Mirakl | Coolshop Chooses Mirakl’s Marketplace Solution as The ‘Natural Way to Grow’ Its Online Retail Business

London, 21 November 2016Mirakl, a leading global Marketplace solutions provider, has announced today that Coolshop, one of Europe’s fasting growing online video game and accessories stores, is using Mirakl’s B2C SaaS Marketplace platform as a foundation for future growth and expansion.

Operating from stores in seven countries (UK, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Netherlands and Denmark), Coolshop has served over 1.6 million customers since its foundation in 2003. Originally focused on computer games, the business has expanded to sell across 22 categories, giving customers the highest quality products and value for money.

The success of Coolshop has meant that space in its warehouses and stores has come under a lot of pressure. Coupled with plans to continue expanding, the company needed to find a solution that would support controlled online expansion into new countries and categories, such as domestic appliances, without requiring a substantial investment in warehousing or infrastructure.

Jacob Risgaard, CEO at Coolshop said, “We fundamentally believe that a Marketplace is the natural way to grow Coolshop and means less risk or investment than other routes. Mirakl Marketplace will allow us to more quickly on-board suppliers and expand categories without needing to hold stock. Customers order from us, but items are shipped directly from the supplier through the Mirakl platform. The flexibility of Mirakl will also mean that we can expand into new countries at speed and localise our site for language, pricing, and which products should be available. What really attracted us to Mirakl, was not just the platform, but the support and expertise that we knew we would receive throughout the implementation, we did not feel that other providers could deliver the same value added services that would get us to market faster.”

The Mirakl Marketplace Platform provides a secure online environment to host transactions between buyers and sellers of both products and services – both B2B and B2C organisations can dramatically increase their product range, expand geographically and introduce a profitable new sales channel. Organisations can use marketplaces to regain their price competitiveness, increase margins, as well as test and extend product ranges inventory and risk free. Ultimately this keeps customers excited about a brand and generates repeat business.

Commenting on Coolshop’s go live, Eric Chemouny, Senior Vice President for EMEA at Mirakl said, “Coolshop has seen the opportunity Marketplaces offer for low risk revenue growth and offer expansion, and moved quickly in its market to implement the Mirakl solution, which has consistently proven itself to help retailers meet these goals. As Coolshop continues to excite its customers with new categories and reach out into new territories we look forward to Mirakl playing a key part in the company’s continued success.”

miniStation – an innovative TV game console based on the Android Operating System – offers hundreds of games from top game studios such as Tencent and Gameloft to consumers via their TVs. Unlike traditional game consoles, the miniStation can be controlled either by traditional game controllers or by mobile phones. Up to eight devices can access the miniStation at the same time, making it a truly compelling multi-user gaming platform.

The pioneering device was launched in response to the around 170M subscribers Tencent has to its mobile phone games and addresses the need for an improved audio and visual experience in this market. The miniStation also offers OTT service, allowing users to be connected to their TV screens anywhere and at any time, meeting the growing demand for TV Everywhere technology.

“This product is incredibly exciting, both from a consumer and industry perspective,” said Darrell Haber, Vice General Manager at Skyworth Digital. “The miniStation combines convenience and accessibility to games and video content with the highest quality visual and audio experience. We are very much looking forward to showcasing this brand new product to our customers at IBC and marking our first step into the gaming industry.”

The miniStation – which received the BlackGold Award at the ChinaJoy game show last month – will be demoed at IBC 2016 as part of Skyworth Digital’s vision for the digital home of the future. The showcase will highlight how tomorrow’s trends can be integrated and packaged for end-users in the future.

Delegates attending IBC 2016 can view the miniStation demo and find out more at Skyworth Digital’s booth – Stand 5.B61.

ROBLOX protects gaming platform by adopting brand protection strategy

NetNames, the online brand protection specialist, has partnered with ROBLOX Corporation, the user-generated online gaming platform, to deliver a brand protection programme to proactively protect ROBLOX products from the threat of counterfeiting on a global scale.

ROBLOX has entered a contract with NetNames, which will see NetNames detect fraudulent websites imitating that of the brand and counterfeit listings of ROBLOX products on marketplace sites, whilst enforcing their removal from the internet. As part of the brand protection programme, NetNames will also monitor for infringements on ROBLOX’s games across social media sites and mobile apps.

With over 15 million games created by its users, ROBLOX is the largest gaming site in the world. Powered by a growing community of over 300,000 developers who create a variety of 3D games, it allows users to experience virtual and augmented reality through applications available across iOS, Android and Kindle Fire devices.

Having developed its own virtual currency, Robux, the online gaming platform represents a digital economy which offers aspiring game developers the opportunity to monetise their creations. The partnership will not only safeguard against infringements on the brand’s trademark, which could be damaging to ROBLOX’s reputation, it will also protect the profits of its community of developers.

David Baszucki, chief executive of ROBLOX, said:
“The partnership with NetNames forms part of a strategic move to protect the ROBLOX brand, and highlights our zero tolerance to counterfeiting. With a growing number of over 4.7 million players globally, we have a responsibility to protect our loyal customer base from the threat of counterfeiting. With NetNames’ technology and expertise behind us, we have the tools required to action against this global problem.”

Stuart Fuller, Director of Commercial Operations at NetNames, said:
“Digital has infiltrated every aspect of our daily lives from work to play, and ROBLOX represents a highly successful company capitalising on this demand. Alongside the opportunities however, the surging tide of global online trade carries fraudsters with it. Counterfeiters are using digital platforms from unpoliced online marketplaces to fraudulent mobile apps to further their reach, profitability and anonymity.

“The need for brands to monitor and take action against counterfeiting online to ensure that revenue is filtered into the legitimate channels has never been more important. We are delighted that ROBLOX is one of the latest brands to enlist our services to protect its products and community of gamers as it grows its offering and followers across the world. “
